Minutes of General Meeting

1.Reading and passing of previous Executive Minutes
Secretary Marie Bourque-Prus determined late in the afternoon that she was unable to attend the meeting, so this item was deferred.

2.Financial Report.
In the period from Jan 1 , Net Income is $4372 and the total equity is $10,747. The expenses anticipated are $1600 for balance of Manager’s contract and $500 for heating. A $100 cheque was received from Labatts Brewery for a rebate for the exclusive use of their product at the Street Dance.

3.Economic Development Initiatives.
Jim McAllister reported that there hasn’t been much activity since Paul Leussink’s initiative on Highway 2 sign and the sponsorship of the television production which was part of the Community Fund Raiser

4.Community Fund Raiser.
The Fund Raiser raised about $40,000 before expenses.
The television production was viewed by some as a “little over the top” but it was pointed out that this is not the video production that will be left to the community as a promotional video, but only those elements of the video taping that will be used for a late night show on Global Television.

5.Town’s Anniversary Celebrations.
Mayor Cummings reported that the initial Event will be Jan. 1. and other community events will be used to supplement this program. The principle Celebration will be a Homecoming which will employ the existing elements of the August long weekend and possibly add other events.

6.Ice Wood and Fire.
The accommodations offered by the Museum to the Executive of IWF were unsatisfactory so this venue will be held at the Arts Centre and adjacent areas.

7.Correspondence

ACC - Premier’s Dinner , Edmonton November 3
Natural Gas Program ACC. Community members of the SDCC can receive a $0.02/GJ if they enter into a supply contract with CEG Energy Options. This would not apply to members on the Town supply. For more information visit www.cegenergy.com

ACC Call for Policy Papers. Deadline February 24, 2006. These papers should relate to attainable objects and be measurable and be of provincial national or international importance. President Bob related a previous experience of this Chamber in two resolutions: one to remove the Education Levy from Property Tax and the other a mechanism for allowing a property owner who was an eligible voter (by residence and ownership) to have the option to vote in a municipal election or plebiscite in which they had property but were not a resident. Both were defeated at the policy conference.

8.Additional Items
Mayor Cummings introduced the proposed amendments to Land Use Bylaw No 705 including a questionnaire which introduces architectural controls and landscaping requirements into the Bylaw.
